Sporian Microsystems, Inc. develops and sells a range of advanced sensor systems and is currently looking for a software engineer to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will have the ability, drive, and creativity to contribute to Sporian's harsh environment sensors, chemical/biological sensors, and wireless sensor R&D efforts. The successful candidate will be expected to work as an integral member of internal project teams to develop project plans, specifications, and performance requirements for sensor systems and other related systems, and to design, implement, test, and support the software components of such systems. Software work is predominantly embedded firmware, often with PC companion software for device testing and use. The candidate must demonstrate a productive working knowledge of contemporary software engineering skills, and be capable of delivering high quality solutions on time and on budget. The candidate must have previous experience developing for embedded targets. Education Requirements: This position requires an individual with a BS or MS degree in computer science or computer engineering, or equivalent experience. Required Skills/Qualifications: 3+ years of experience developing firmware for embedded targets using Linux, RTOS, or bare metal. Consumer targeted smart phone apps and similar do not count toward desired experience. Have acted as primary or lead developer for small to medium embedded projects (2-4 staff years with multiple developers) and can demonstrate these projects were delivered on time and on budget. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary R&D environment. Good multitasking skills; must support multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent command of C, and the POSIX and Linux userspace programming APIs. Demonstrated skill with network and database programming. Capable of creating and maintaining build systems using GNU GCC and make. Conversant with GIT or another contemporary version control system. Proficient developing from a Linux desktop. Strong written and verbal communications skills. This position requires work on DoD contracts that require US Citizenship or US Legal Permanent Resident status.
