Digital Media Specialist University of Puget Sound Job ID: 4426 Location: Technology Services Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Position Description:This position provides efficient classroom and events support with a strong customer service commitment and user satisfaction as the ultimate goal. This position has two major areas of responsibility: 1) support students, faculty and staff in use of A/V equipment and in the creation of A/V presentations; 2) troubleshoot, maintain and repair audio/visual equipment in classrooms and other campus venues to support classrooms and events.Responsibilities: Provide technical expertise, consultation and support for users in the use of A/V equipment and software and in development of multimedia and A/V presentations. Provides video and/or audio support and setup for special lectures, conferences, and other campus events (major and minor). Arranges, schedules and provides direct video recording services for campus events and university related projects. Provides direct support of media production such as audio and video encoding and editing, including training student staff in the support of these activities. Provide direct user support by answering phones, responding to user requests sent via email, the web, or by visiting classrooms or other campus venues to assist users in-person when needed. Assist the Digital Media Services Manager in the day to day affairs of the Tech Center, including media desk backup, assigning work to student workers as appropriate, maintenance, repair, delivery and circulation of A/V equipment. Assist in the design and installation of A/V equipment for classrooms and event spaces Provide input and feedback in order to improve service, including collaborating with other TS members to create documentation for TS staff and for users. Perform related duties as assigned.Qualifications: Associate's degree and four years of related experience. Related education may substitute for up to two years of experience. Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience in higher education IT strongly preferred. Thorough knowledge of and experience in the use of audio and video recording equipment and Windows and Macintosh editing software to edit and produce a finished media presentation. Thorough knowledge of and experience in installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of analog and digital A/V equipment. Effectively discern color differences in video presentations for editing purposes, and distinguish sounds in audio presentations for editing purposes. Excellent communication skills and customer service orientation, with the ability to work as a flexible, collaborative, and supportive team member, while excelling in a fast-paced service environment. Intellectual flexibility, technical curiosity and a sense of humor, including ability to learn independently. Must be able to work evening and weekend hours as needed to support events. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds from floor to waist, negotiate stairs while hauling equipment, stand on a ladder and work in cramped equipment/cable areas, tolerate long periods of walking, kneeling or stooping, and demonstrate visual acuity and hand/finger dexterity to work with hand tools to repair/replace small components.
